Edinburgh Day 2 - 9/27/08

We were supposed to meet at 10 to head to the castle, but Gary and I didn’t wake up until 9:40 a.m.

After we showered and dressed, we went hunting for our tour guide, Diane. George and Debbie had also slept longer than planned, and Doug was a no-show. See a theme here? Jet lag city.

We met for breakfast in the Club Room at the hotel then headed for Edinburgh castle on foot.

We toured the castle grounds and watched the firing of the One O’clock gun.

At tiny St. Margaret’s Chapel, we watched a wedding party complete with bagpiper.

We also toured the War Memorial and saw the Crown Jewels.

Afterward, we went to The Black Bull #12 pub for lunch where Doug met us. The most unique meal was Gary's steak pie. Debbie tried the fish and chips while most everyone else had burgers.

Then we meandered back toward the hotel, stopping to shop a little. We picked up a couple of plaid cashmere scarves for Dad and Carolyn and a pair of gloves for me.

We went to dinner at Jackson's on the Royal Mile. George had the most interesting entree of venison haunch.
