With Maggie left in Granny and Grandpa's capable hands, Gary and I flew to Edinburgh and stayed at The Scotsman. It’s in a lovely old building in downtown that housed the city's newspaper. Outside the window of our room, we could see the Waverly train station and the Balmoral hotel.
Our room was not quite ready when we arrived so we went down to the hotel's restaurant, called The Brasserie, for drinks and appetizers. We found our friends, Doug and Diane Dickey as well as George and Debbie Roberts, walking past, and Gary ran out to grab them.
We all decided to have dinner at The Brasserie, but made the mistake of going upstairs for a quick nap to help with jet lag. Gary and I napped through my cell phone alarm, and our friends had to call to wake us up.
Gary had hake (fish), and I had poached salmon. Diane and George ordered steak while Doug had duck and Debbie ate rock bass. We drank Eradus pinot noir.
Gary and I finally went to the room around midnight, but everyone else stayed up until 2 a.m.
